Hobo With A Shotgun brings the Troma charm to 2011.

Growing up, Troma was my favorite studio. Their films ranged from warped to depraved and I love every single one. What's better is that thanks to Netflix, I can actually go back and watch a majority of their catalog. The problem though is that due to financial problems, they really havn't released much since Tromeo and Juliet back in 95 or 96. No other film has been able to garner the feel and charm the early Troma films had, until now.

Hobo With A Shotgun started off as a fan made trailer added to the Canadian Grindhouse fake trailer pack. Oddly two of those fake trailers have manifested into actual movies. Machete, which was simply amazing for the for 100 minutes, and now Hobo With A Shotgun, a movie that was quite clearly Troma inspired.

The movie follows The Great Rutger Hauer as a hobo in a Tromaville esque town, minding his own business before getting caught up in the local crime family's murder spree. Due to this, he gets ambushed and mutilated. This is where he's had enough. Having saved up money for a Lawnmower for his son, he instead uses that to purchase a Shotgun and enact his vengeance on the crime family.

Now, if you grew up in the 80's like I did, you have a special appreciation for Rutger Hauer. He made quite a few memorable movies through the 80's and early 90's. You had Deadlock, Wanted: Dead Or Alive, The Hitcher, and  Bladerunner among his best, as well as various other great titles.

All in all, a solid 8/10 movie. If you know exploitation films and enjoy most Troma movies, i guarantee you'll get a kick out of this.

  10. I think Troma's really grown since they first started. This is also an era of mass marketed exploitation films. The genre has really found it's place.
